Based out of Brooklyn, MEN is a band and art/performance collective, fronted by JD Samson (Le Tigre). MEN formed in 2007 and along with JD, is primarily made up of Michael O'Neill and Ginger Brooks Takahashi (both of who were members of JD's live band Hirsute). Emily Roysdon and fellow Le Tigre member, Johanna Fateman also contribute.
Fresh off of their first performance in China, MEN have 3 upcoming shows in the US. The first of which will be in Piedmont Park for ATLANTA PRIDE, this Sat. 10/09.
I only recently came across their music, but from what I understand, MEN make each show a unique art project and sometimes get local artists involved - such as painting a backdrop during their peformance. In addition to all the creative interactivity, I'm drawn to MEN for addressing important issues such as wartime economies, equal rights and liberties for ALL. Plus, the music is just awesome.
I plan on experiencing my first MEN show this Sat. and hope that if you are in the ATL, you'll join me! If you are in NY on 10/19 or Austin, TXon 10/22 you also have opportunities to experience them LIVE before they embark on their European Tour. (Click HERE for dates)
Simultaneously is just one of the three songs from their Limited Edition EP. The other two are Credit Card Babie$ and Off Our Backs - my personal favorite, though all are really good!)
